Bandura, Ross, and Ross, the authors of the article Imitation of Film-mediated Aggressive Models, explores a hypothesis that exposure of children to various forms of film-mediated aggressive models enhances the probability of aggression to subsequent frustrations. The core objective of the authors is to describe the contribution of Albert Bandura to the educational psychology field. After Bandura arrived at Stanford, the chair of the department was researching the various familial antecedents of social behaviors in children. As such, Bandura began a research program on aggression and social learning together with Richard Walters as a doctoral student. The aggression of students in school and playground was an ideal expression of the various underlying impulses that needs a release in detrimental ways.
A summary of previous studies is critical to expedite a comprehensive understanding of the current article. Previous research by Bandura, Ross, and Ross revealed that children with exposure to models that portray aggressive behaviors to bobo dolls would portray similar aggression to the bobo dolls even if the models were absent (Bandura, Ross, & Ross, 1963). The main idea behind the finding was the learning theory by Bandura based on the idea that human beings learn through various observations of experiences and social interactions. Therefore, the ultimate objective of Bandura and co-authors in their study is to assess if or not the children who watched the same aggression as in the previous studies would imitate aggression levels. The authors compare the results of real-life aggression to film- mediated aggression to compare the results.
