Topic: iscuss the effects of global trade on the U.S. economy.
Address the following in your discussion:
List three major U.S. imports and exports.
Is it more important for the United States to focus on importing goods or exporting them?
How does global trading affect its participants? Specifically, how does it impact their gains and losses?
Do you think importing or exporting of goods benefits the country more than the other? Why or why not?
Post 1:
The top three major U.S. imports are cars, computers, and petroleum. The top three for exports are also cars, petroleum, and spacecraft such as planes.
I believe it's more important for the U.S. to focus on exporting rather than importing. Exporting goods and services is what they sell to firms and other countries.
Global trade affects its participants by providing benefits for billions of people, but can also cause problems around the world such as outsourcing or transitions of employees from one industry to another, and issues related to manufacturing in the developing world. According to Economists they agree that the gains from globalization vastly outweigh the losses. U.S consumers win when we look at how globalization brought iPods, Wii games Nike shoes and other large products.
I don't believe either really benefits more than the other in a way. If we look at what the top major exports and imports that the U.S focus on these products help the U.S. to be big winners in the global trading.
Post 2:
Some of the top imports for the U.S include Oil, Machines/Engines, and Electronic equipment. Rounding out some top exports are, Machines/Engines, Electronic equipment, and Oil. Hence, they both are the same products, just each one has a different significance per category i.e. imports/exports. I firmly believe that it is more important for the U.S to worry about exporting goods rather than importing them. Reason being is, we will maintain jobs in big corporations and it gives a chance to market our brand if you will. Plus, we would be bringing a profit and you cannot go wrong with that. Although global trading affects its participants, many will profit and be better off with making trades globally. Many countries are unable to produce certain products and might need something sort of product to fulfill their everyday life. Whether you argue exports benefit this country more than imports, I believe that there is not a clear answer to that. Both of them contribute a ton to our everyday lives.

This student has stated that the United States' major imports are petroleum, computers and cars. I partially agree with this student's response. For instance, petroleum could be among the major imports to the United States. However, I do not think that computers and cars are among the top three major U.S. imports. With regard to cars, the United States manufactures cars through various companies. There are several automobile manufacturers in the United States all of which produces vehicles both for domestic consumption and for export. As a result, cars cannot be among the major three imports to the United States. Similarly, I totally disagree with this student's opinion that computers are among the major three imports to the United States. This is due to the fact that the U.S. has various computer manufacturing companies. However, the student's argument that the U.S. should focus more on exports that imports is very correct. This is because if the country's exports are more than its imports it implies that the country's balance of pa...
