Leadership Approach is Essential for the Growth and Success of an Organization
This discussion will evaluate the leadership approaches of two organizations: The Walmart Stores and Hewlett Packard, HP, with a view to compare and contrast these approaches and look at their relevance in today's context. Walmart Stores uses the transformational leadership approach, whereas HP applies the transactional leadership approach. Transformational leadership involves the leader instilling positive change in the ones they lead and the organization. Transactional leadership, on the other hand, involves a leadership appeal to the followers' self-interests by directing and motivating them, given the leadership's responsibilities and authority in the organization.
In fostering an innovative culture and positive change, Transformational Leadership creates a particular ideology within the firm so that successful organizational results are achieved ("The 4 'I's' of Transformational Leadership," January 13, 2022). To demonstrate Transformational leadership, Sam Walton, the founder of Wal-Mart, had a tradition of visiting Wal-Mart stores and appreciating his associates for their dedication to the stores (Farnsworth et al., July 2019). Comparisons
Both Transformational and Transactional leadership approaches have followers and leaders as their main participants who are aiming toward a given mutual purpose that is of benefit to both parties. This involves the Transformational leader’s convincing the followers, through inspirational and empathizing abilities, to challenge themselves by first understanding their mindset origin. These approaches are solutions to the management of groups of subordinates and the utilization of developed and time-tested psychological methods (“Transactional vs. Transformational Leadership,” May 20, 2019). The Transactional leadership approach has its leaders operating within the rules, procedures, and policies of the setup and sticking to the outcome of direct reports, which are desired by the followers.
Both Transformational and Transactional leadership approaches use motivation in the pursuit of the results. In the Transformational leadership approach, the leaders motivate the followers by allowing everyone to be creative and innovative. Creativity and innovation are when participants think outside the box to come up with new solutions to the issues that are facing the organization. The transactional leadership approach motivates by rewarding the participants' services by way of salaries and...
