The existing leadership theories have several shortcomings based on various recent ideologies on applied leadership in the complex global environment. The first instance involves critical issues and the changing business environments that industry leaders overlook (Lawrence, 2015). Managers are not ready to face modern organizational complexities head-on. Secondly, leaders have failed to adequately respond to the changing nature of the work environment. There has been a lack of connection between managers and their juniors. The situation has led to diminishing trust and engagement in organizations. Another disqualification of the existing leadership theories revolves around the claims that the models are outdated based on human motivation and behavior, rendering them ineffective in modern times. The current management systems are slow to innovate and change, causing stagnation and a lack of efficient response to the present century's challenges.
