Organizational politics are part and parcel of most organizations (Landells et al., 2019). It is the magnitude and the resolution mechanisms that vary from organization to organization. There is one major political battle that I witnessed. I was working for a company that deals with technological software solutions. At some point, there was a heightened political battle between the CEO and some board members. The cause of disagreement arose from the tendering process. Some of the board members claimed that the CEO favored his friends and family when hiring members to supply goods and services to the company. The matter became so intense that it escalated to the company's founders. When a meeting of the shareholders was convened, the CEO was found culpable and laid off.
Though fierce, the primary individual factor that led to the political battle was the selfish interests of the CEO. The policy of the company indicated that the tendering process should be free and fair. According to the company's policy, the most deserving party should be granted the responsibility of delivering various goods and services the company needs. However, the CEO contravened this policy and conspired with his friends and family to defraud the company of resources. In this case, the major organizational factor that played out was great disagreements between the CEO and some board members. These board members were not satisfied with the manner in which the CEO made most of his decisions. Therefore, to start the process of ousting him, they investigated the tendering process and found some inconsistencies.
