Information flow in the organization is significant since it determines the quality of decision-making. Information is the communication between employees, systems, and departments for effective business function (Keyton, 2017). The journal entry addresses information in a company that I work in, Berkshire Hathaway.
Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Group, Intercultural and Organizational Level of Communication
Berkshire has five levels of communication. The first level is intrapersonal communication which the management encourages for the psychological stability of the employees. It involves communication with oneself to promote mental health and cognitive behaviors (Barbour, 2017). The second level is interpersonal, which involves sharing information between two or more individuals. The key approaches that the company uses to promote interpersonal communication are non-verbal and verbal methods. The third level of communication to the company is group communication which is encouraged through team formations in different departments. Besides, organizational communication is the fourth level in the company and is used to resolve emerging conflicts and disagreements among all the employees and the management. The last level is intercultural communication. The company is large and composed of employees from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, intercultural communication allows the employees to break the cultural barriers and share information necessary for effective decision-making and company growth.
Communication Flow
Berkshire Hathaway Company is hierarchically based, and information flow is significant. The information flows downwards from the CEO to the general manager, manager, and employee. The downward information flow allows the workforce to implement top-level decisions in the company. However, the upward flow majorly occurs between the low-level and high-level employees.
