Human Resource Management Name: Instructor: Course Title Instructor: Date: Human Resource Management Pros and Cons Associated with Using Internal Sources of Candidates Recruiting staff from the existing workers, or employing from within, is known to be the best channel of sourcing potential candidates for hire. However, this form of recruiting staff from internal candidates poses a number of merits and demerits. According to Dessler (2013), recruiting from internal sources is advantageous because the recruiting personnel have some foreknowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the existing staff. There is no substitute for understanding each candidate’s weaknesses and strengths. Additionally, since the potentials and skills of each internal candidate are already known, it is easy to select appropriate candidates to fill vacant positions. Internal candidates have also been found to demonstrate stronger commitments towards companies’ objectives (Dessler, 2013). Recruiting from internal sources also increases the morale of employees as they find promotions to be rewards for their competence and loyalty. Finally, filling vacant positions requires less orientation and training before candidates assume their new roles. Since internal candidates already understand the values and mission of the firm, it will not be necessary to repeat the process of orientation and training. Internal recruitment is not devoid of challenges, and employers might want to find alternatives. Candidates who fail to qualify may become discontented (Dessler, 2013).
