What Motivates Me
Motivation plays a significant role in improving employees’ performance. Many companies use benefits such as health care coverage, profit sharing, life insurance, exercise facilities, availability of child care, and company cars to motivate their employees. However, I derive my motivation from monetary incentives since money is a medium of exchange. Therefore, it is a means I can use to purchase items to satisfy my desires and needs. Money also serves as a scorecard by which I can assess the company's value on my services. Also, I feel that monetary incentives act as an empowerment tool that promotes employees’ autonomy by imparting vital skills that enable them to generate new ideas that help run personal and teamwork projects.
How can Managers Motivate Employees?
(A). When The Economy Is on A Downturn
A conducive business environment attracts investors to venture and exploit different opportunities in the market, even during economic recessions (Tanner, 2020). This creates employment opportunities since it creates new platforms in newly started businesses that can accommodate retrenched employees. However, the survival of many companies during such times requires managers to ensure that there is a comprehensive and credible communication network to facilitate the flow of information in the company and its stakeholders. This requires the capacity to act on the employee’s input by following up the production process to ensure that all employees adhere to the company’s set goals. If operations are not in the organization's best interests, there would be a need to provide a clear explanation. The manager should always share financial information by being open and upfront in order to build confidence and trust among their team (Heathfield, 2021). Establishing effective and reliable problem-solving techniques also helps motivate employees because they create an opportunity for a company to recognize and reward positive contributions.
