Virtue is defined as a person`s moral excellence or fineness. Hence, morally upright individuals possess a personality comprising virtues that are regarded as good. For instance, virtuous people are kind, courageous, honest, forgiving, and respectful. They usually do the appropriate thing and are not swayed by desires, impulses, or urges but conform to prescribed societal principles and values. However, some people might argue that good qualities are intrinsic, but as human beings, we are not flawless, and as such, virtues need to be cultivated and nurtured so they may be predominant in our lives. When we habitually adopt virtuous traits, we become in full control of our lives, thus, enabling us to pursue greater fulfillment and happiness in life. We can then achieve self-actualization.
Honesty is one virtue that closely defines my persona. Loosely defined, honesty is a component of morality that represents virtuous and positive characteristics like straightforwardness, integrity, truthfulness, devoid of bad habits like theft, cheating, and lying. Besides, it involves being sincere, trustworthy, fair, and loyal. As is the norm, honesty is revered in numerous religious or ethnic cultures. As William Shakespeare once put it in his works, “All`s Well that Ends Well,” honesty is an attribute people leave behind. True to his words, honesty goes a long way in impacting other people`s lives even when we are not around, as “no legacy is so rich as honesty.”
