The human resources (HR) department remains a critical function in an organization because of its indispensable role in achieving short-term and strategic goals. For this reason, most corporate entities recognize the need to loop HR managers in the planning of company operations to help identify the suitable people to achieve specific objectives (Adler & Ghadar, 2017). While various stakeholders hope to have a seamless performance from this office, they face a myriad of challenges, which have an adverse ripple effect in different ways. Similarly, N. Harris Computer Corporation confronts problems that influence it in separate ways. For example, the company faces the shortcoming of having multi-state compliance on sick leave, paid time off (PTO), and vacation, which significantly impacts the company's finances, leadership, retention, growth strategy, and job satisfaction.
First, this challenge affects job satisfaction because it directly involves employees' welfare. According to Garg et al. (2018), the staff is self-motivated when attaining a sustainable work-life balance. Further, the study shows that paid time off incentivizes workers, leading to higher productivity, making them satisfied with their jobs. At Harris, the variation in regulations by different states' laws makes it difficult to achieve job satisfaction. The organization may find it unnecessary to pay employees on leave in one country unless it is a requirement in that jurisdiction.
