Foreign subsidiaries of multinational companies (MNCs) are highly disadvantaged compared to the headquarters or counterparts operating in the local countries. The subsidiaries’ major sources of disadvantages are attributed to a spatial distance of the host country from the headquarters (local countries), a lack of legitimacy or familiarity with the new environment, cultural class, high costs of coordination, and inadequate relational harmony in the structures and networks of the host country (Rickley, 2019). The differences in cultures profoundly affect management, particularly marketing and the process of hiring employees. As a result, organizations need to hire native marketing and human resource managers instead of expatriates to counter the cultural, environmental, and geographical disadvantages facing foreign subsidiaries of MNC. Coca-Cola is an MNC that operates in many countries across the globe. Argentina has a different culture from the United States and Coca-Cola is expected to respond to the cultural differences between the two nations by hiring hire native marketing and human resource managers instead of expatriates from the US.

National culture has been identified as a major factor that affects human resource practices, particularly in MNCs. Most MNCs tend to transfer their home-country human resource practices to their foreign subsidiaries (Wijewanth, 2019). However, the majority of the MNCs find it challenging to maintain standard human resources practices from the home countries because of the profound influence of national culture on various aspects of human resource management. National culture is deeply rooted in the values, norms, beliefs, basic assumptions, and behaviors that are learned early and are changed slowly.
