In any company, it is important to consider the triple bottom line (TBL) in managing the company’s operations. TBL equates the importance of social and environmental responsibilities to profitability. This theory prioritizes three bottom lines, namely, profit, people, and the planet. Overall, it gauges the level of commitment of the company to the world holistically over time. The essential metrics in operations management reflect the triple bottom line (Kenton, 2020).
People are vital in analyzing the company’s social responsibility throughout history. The profit is the traditional reflection of the company’s profit. And, the planet evaluates environmental responsibility (Kenton, 2020). In line with this, I have developed a list of the most significant metrics in operations management. Overtime hours, lead-conversion rate, and environmental metrics under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.
Overtime hours may be scheduled or unscheduled. This reflects the workload of employees and directly affects the absenteeism rate that reflects the engagement of the employees. It demonstrates the situation of the workforce and how the employees deal with the given amount of work pressure. Also, this is a performance indicator that shows the effects of work on the employees (Durcevic, 2018). Research has shown that this is antecedent to worker satisfaction. The increasing number of hours is directly proportional to productivity. Over time, employees suffer from burnout which leads to reduced productivity, and consequently profitability. Overtime hours can also have positive effects when this is given positive reinforcements such as additional pay or bonuses and when it is done infrequently. These methods have shown to enhance the performance of the employees compared to the continuous daily shifts with minimal rests. To gather information on this, the OM may contact the human resource department head and ask for the timesheets of the employees. From here, the OM can monitor the employee’s performance based on his productivity rate (Badran, 2018).
