Introduction
In early 2020, the United States Workforce Statistics revealed that 77 percent of the United States workforce consists of white people, Hispanics comprise 18 percent of the workforce, while Black people accounted for 13 percent of the said population. The smallest percentage is 6 percent of Asians (Wallace, 2021). It is worth noting that the diversity of an economy makes it a strong economy, and those businesses that adopt the dynamic demographics benefit economically from such diversity and the all-inclusive workforce. The US government ought to change to accommodate the country's shifting demographics as it continues to become more diverse. This essay will evaluate how the US government will be impacted by greater diversity and the steps Human Resource professionals should take to prepare for increased diversity.
Ideally, employers and Human Resource professionals that hire from a diverse workforce acquire the best talents and skills needed in the organizations and necessary for competitive advantage with other organizations. Therefore, they need to be free of bias and discrimination in the recruiting, selection, and promotion processes to be inclusive of diversity (Inegbedion et al., 2020). Once an organization brings together people of different backgrounds, experiences, and capabilities, the businesses become better and more innovative. They are much more likely to be successful in a highly competitive market. The rationale is that the workforce is highly productive; hence there is productiveness in work performed. In other words, there is economic growth once many women, gays, transgender individuals, and other minority groups join the workforce since there will be diverse ideas in the work environment. Due to the significance of diversity in the current economy, Figure 2 below shows the economic data that clearly shows the current state of diversity in the United States workforce.
The requirement for greater cultural competency and sensitivity will be another effect of rising diversity on the US government. Government employees will need to be able to collaborate well with people from various origins, cultures, and experiences as the United States becomes increasingly diverse (Inegbedion et al., 2020). For employees to develop the cultural awareness and competency necessary to function well in a diverse workplace, human resources professionals will need to offer training and resources which might entail instruction in subjects like unconscious bias, cross-cultural communication, and cultural humility.
