The airline industry continues to witness increased competition particularly with the development and growth of low cost couriers. As such, majority of the airlines have made it their primary focus to heighten their marketing and distribution initiatives not only to increase their brand awareness but also entice customers with different offers and promotions. In this regard, these airlines have resorted to using online travel agents such as Expedia and Travelocity. It is however essential to note that despite both airline websites and travel agencies pushing for the sale of air tickets to customers worldwide, there are some notable differences. For instance, using American Airline and Expedia to book a flight from Paris to Philadelphia on the 3rd of March, 2020, there are some differences in the information displayed on the websites.
To begin with, Expedia highlights ticket prices for the stipulated travel date, from and to the destinations shared by various airlines including American Airlines. It also provides information on the different stops that a passenger will be taken round before they eventually reach their destination. According to the Expedia Website, the fewer the stops, the shorter is the flying time. However, passengers who are in a hurry and wish to take fewer hours and with reduced stoppages along the way will be required to pay higher amounts (Expedia.com, 2020). On the other hand, the American Airlines has segmented its prices into four segments: main cabin, premium economy, business and first class (American Airlines.com, 2020).
