Cybercrime is one the vices that the modern world governments and international community are working hard to either eradicate or keep in check. In the recent past, hackers have sent malware to various internet users bringing down websites of reputable organizations and government agencies in addition to individuals. As a result, a lot of valuable information and money has been lost. Besides the software based solution to the problem, the states have passed legislation to regulate the use of the internet as well convict the culprits involved in cybercrime. However, the rapidly changing technology has hindered the efforts exposing internet users to dangerous contents and individuals. The cyber criminals are gaining freedom and security of nations is compromised due to legal inadequacies, tough modern laws can solve the challenges, individuals are afraid of transacting online, and internet users receive harmful information.
Ramifications
Today, the number of criminal activity categorized as cyber crimes is growing each day as a result of the emerging use of technology. Notably, the computer and internet experts are churning out new applications at a rate never witnessed before while evil minded persons are utilizing legal and system loopholes to carry out their acts. According to Chmabers- Jones and Hillman (2014), the judges have found traditional federal and state laws unfit for the prosecution of the new crimes leading to the release of perpetrators. As a result, the cyber criminals are emboldened to commit information technology offences since they are aware that they cannot be convicted. Furthermore, the situation is demoralizing the security and legal system officers who are expected to fight the vice in the United States. The senate can remedy the situation by widening the scope of current legislation and regulations, putting in place harsh measures as well as updating them regularly besides speedy conviction of criminals.
