What I found most Surprising from the Week’s Readings
I found several concepts surprising and interesting from the materials explored this week. One of these is the immense range of benefits of a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), especially for law offenders in jails. I was surprised to learn that law enforcement officers act as first-contact responders to most mental health crises (NAMI, 2018). A CIT program helps improve the outcome of efforts to deal with mental health crises. CIT programs connect law enforcement, emergency services, individuals ailing from mental illnesses and their families, and mental health professionals (NAMI, 2018). The programs improve communication, take hold of resources for individuals in need, ensure that the
