Positive leadership is a concept that has gained momentum in modern organizations. It has dawned to many leaders that there is more to leadership than ordering employees and having them achieve their set goals. Positive leadership involves employing multiple positive practices to ensure that employees remain motivated while organizations achieve their best results (Cameron, 2012). Positive leadership is guided by the fact that employees are emotional beings. Consequently, it is essential to impact those emotions positively so that the employee can find meaning in their work. With the application of positive leadership concepts by a leader, employees are left feeling valued. As a result, they cease seeing work as some undesirable thing that they have to do and instead think of it as a great part of their daily lives. This paper will reflect on the concepts of positive leadership, their feasibility as well their application in the current, past, and future workplaces.
One concept of positive leadership is emotional intelligence. Emotionally intelligent leaders can interact with various employees harmoniously. They can effectively deal with different temperaments. They are also able to deal with various emotions displayed by employees. In my past workplace, I witnessed an emotionally intelligent manager. The manager had a seamless way of dealing with different employees and their temperaments. Through this ability, the manager was able to influence the employees to achieve the set goals. In my current workplace, I endeavor to be emotionally intelligent. Although I am yet to perfect the art of emotional intelligence, I have made tremendous progress. I can interact well with most of my fellow employees. In the future, I plan to have my own company. I know by then that I will have mastered the art of emotional intelligence. Through this art, I will be able to deal with my employees and their temperaments effectively.
Motivation is another key concept of positive leadership. Through motivation, employees find reasons to enjoy their work. They view work as something rewarding and are likely to be more productive. Extensive evidence has shown that leaders who motivate their employees drive their organizations to achieve tremendous success (Ramdas & Patrick, 2018).
