Nestle Waters, Case Study on Management and Change
Summary
The case study features the change process in data quality management within Nestle Waters, one of the world's leading bottled water companies that operate across 30 different countries, with 87 manufacturing plants and 48 brand portfolios (Infinity QS, n.d.). Nestle Waters leveraged the expertise and engineers from Infinity QS to provide real-time solutions that allowed the company to manage processes and data flow more efficiently. The previous manual system based on paper had proven to be tedious, less accurate, and required more human resources to collect and analyze data, which was detrimental to data quality. Nestle Waters now has real-time visibility over production processes across dozens of facilities and inside specific sites, thanks to the implementation of InfinityQS technologies. The business uses InfinityQS to continuously improve its goods and procedures. Other additional benefits associated with the implementation of the Infinity QS system include simplicity, quality data analysis, and the visualization of trends being made easier.
Reasons for Adopting Quality Documentation System
The company has had an extensive portfolio, operating globally and collecting vast amounts of data with the manual system. Monitoring, reviewing, and trending data across the different manufacturing facilities was becoming difficult, prompting the company to reconsider the data collection and analysis method previously put in place. With the manual system, the labor costs incurred in unraveling the inaccuracies arising from inconsistent and inaccurate data entries are huge, requiring the transition to a computerized system. The other driving force can be linked to the aspect of consistency. Maintaining consistency in a system operating independently in 87 manufacturing plants across the globe had become impossible, prompting the company to approach Infinity QS to help them with a computerized system that can help in ensuring consistency at all levels. The need to improve visibility also contributed by pushing the company to adopt new data solutions that ensured quality and accessibility of data could be met with much ease without disrupting the normal functioning of its operations. Manual analysis of data proved to be time-consuming, and the engineers were seeking to adopt a new, more efficient method, thus opting for a new computerized system from Infinity QS.
Change Objectives
The change process within Nestle Waters followed two convergent paths: retail manufacturing and home & office manufacturing, as per the IT project design (Infinity QS). Each of the segments had specified objectives as outlined by the project implementation team.
Retail Manufacturing Objectives
Some of the objectives targeting retail manufacturing included:
* Software upgrade for all the manufacturing plants to comply with Infinity QS software standard
* Purchasing of personal computers to be used in the retail
* Installing the Infinity QS operating systems on the PCs used in the retail centers
* Allocating access righ...
