In this Module 2 SLP, you have the opportunity to delve further into the talent management function and HR’s role in it. As you may recall from the video on talent management-- performance management, learning and motivating, compensation, career development, and succession planning all are contributors to building a strong talent pool.
You will learn more about two employees who have been with ACME, Inc. for two years. Andy is working as a quality assurance specialist in the plant and Ismal is an IT robotics specialist. These employees are friends and often meet outside of work with a few other ACME employees, including Henry, a new employee recently hired as an HR Staffing Specialist.
Ismal caught some movement out of the corner of his eye. It was a video on the overhead TV screen:

“Quiet….Listen to this,” pleaded Ismal. The table of acquaintances turned to the screen. “That’s it--I make good money at ACME, but lately I feel something is missing.”
“Something is missing? Ismal, you are lucky. Many things are missing for me,” said Andy.
“Yep, more than one thing for me too,” said Ismal, thinking about his lousy boss.

After realizing that a number of employees are unhappy and dissatisfied in the company, I need to do everything it takes to retain them. Since they are good and intelligent employees, I need to find out what is causing the disenchantment at work. I know that the remunerations are good; I have heard from the horse's mouth, so I know it is not all about money (People Squad Solutions, 2018). My foremost goal is to keep the employees in the company by all means. This means that I have to change the general image of the company.
Within three months, I intend to change the employees' attitude toward work. As such, I need to find ways to boost their morale. Within that time frame, I also need to understand each employee's purpose and work toward helping them achieve it. I also need to create a friendly working environment where all the employees will feel treasured and an integral part of the company. I intend to formulate ways to improve the work relationships, which apparently are frosty at the moment. I also want to find out whether they find the working space favorable, if not, what they would want to be addressed. Last but not least, I need to enhance communication in the company (Ghani et al., 2022). I want everyone to feel comfortable when expressing themselves.
Tasks
I will conduct surveys in the company to understand why the employees are unhappy despite making good money. I will give an audience to all employees at a personal level, one at a time. During these meet-ups, I will seek to understand whether situations at home are affecting their work attitudes. I also need to understand their purpose in life and what motivates them. To achieve this, I will need them to fill out questionnaires.
After getting these insights, I will organize company retreats that will improve bonding and interpersonal relations. During these retreats, I will look to make plans for experts to give pep talks on working toward one's purpose and improving relationships. I will also make plans for employee development to improve their skills and boost their self-worth. I will have to look for life coaches and mentors to achieve this end. I will also introduce an incentive and appraisal policy to reward outstanding employees (Ghani et al., 2022). This will help shape the employees' purpose.
