While both Vollen and Ying’s and Alexievich’s oral history are about the history of a certain place describing features as they are evidenced in those places, the two use different approaches. To start with Vollen and Ying start by giving a summary of the main points in their narration. This means that even before a person reads the whole article, he is able to grasp what the article is all about. For instance, the authors start by saying, “There are between fifty thousand and one hundred thousand people left in New Orleans”. On the contrary, Alexievich goes direct to the story and therefore, it is only after reading the whole or a great part of the article that one understands what it is about and the main points that are covered.
