If someone you know was stung by a bee, what would your actions be?
The first thing to following a bee sting is to move the person away from the incident area calmly to avoid other bees if they are within the area. The second step is to locate the point of the sting and remove the stinger. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association (AAD), the longer the stinger remains in the skin, the more venom it releases. Higher quantities of venom add to the pain and swelling and extended recovery time. The stinger is removed by scraping over it either with a fingernail or a gauze, but not a pair of tweezers.
