Introduction
Television watching is important to children as they are entertained and educated about various subjects in life. The child is exposed to different cultures by watching television, making it possible to have proper interpersonal skills. This is because of the understandingof different people from various backgrounds who are displayed through television programs. Vossen, Piotrowski and Valkenburg (2015) state that ideas that a child is likely to encounter in the society are learned through television programs.The program that a child views dictates the behavior as it influences the thinking of the child (Valkenburg, 2015; Boxer, Groves & Docherty 2015). Therefore, violent television programs affect the child negatively leading to a fierce lifestyle.
TV programs influence to children violence behaviors
TV programs have an impact on the health and behavior of a child as the ideas displayed from a program are implemented by the child in real life experience. The social interaction of the child is greatly affected by the programs that a child is exposed. In case a child is exposed to violent programs, there the various negative effects that greatly affect the actions of the child. According to American Psychological Association (2015), a child becomes less sensitive from the continuous view of the violent TV programs. This is because a child views even a great emotional occasion as a normal course of life where one is not supposed to make one worried. Verlinden et al. (2014) explain that the mind of a child is deformed, making him or her view various life occasions that requires one to be sensitive as just a small issue. The violent programs make the child to be less caring, which is a negative effect on the behavior of a child.
WXYZ-TV Detroit (2013) says that violent TV programs affect negatively the behavior of a child, as children tend to imitate what they view on the program. There is a need for a parent or guardian of a child to inspect the content that is viewed by the child to reduce the effects of negative TV programs Gentile et al. (2014);Strasburger, Donnerstein and Bushman (2014).Most parents are concerned with the time that a child spend on television without putting into consideration the content viewed by the child.
