For a student coming from China to the United States, the first piece of advice to them would be to watch people. Well, this does not mean that you be creepy or follow people around, no. This means that you watch people with the intention of learning their mannerisms and way of life. Life in the US is quite different to life in China and as one transitions from the latter to the former, it is easy to get lost and to succumb to depression. However, when you watch people and seek to learn and understand their ways, it is indeed possible to start getting comfortable and to acquire a few habits which will help you transition better.
