The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey reviews how successful people struggle to develop personal effectiveness and healthy relationships. Covey argues that individual perception determines how we see things. Therefore, people have to change first to change the situation. He further contends that success comes from personal ethics, including the public image, behavior, and attitude towards all aspects of life. Covey speaks against unethical procedures to success, arguing that these methods yield short term solutions that are unprofitable. People should allow themselves to go through processes to change their attitude and perception of success.
Being proactive enables one to live their own life and take responsibility for one choice. People can examine their character and make critical decisions on how to control situations. A proactive person must be practical, find solutions to change challenging conditions, and change the position. These people develop the response and ability to respond to a stimulus. Notably, being proactive requires positive energy to control one's feelings, despite the situation. For instance, the habits remind me about a personal crisis I experienced and required effective practices. As an individual, this came pressure, where I had to choose between what I wanted and what my parents expected (Covey, 2018). At some point, they tried to get a fiancé, something that I opposed at the time.
Effective habits enable the development of interdependence relationships focused on cooperation. Through these habits, companies create a win-win situation, where they both mutually benefit from the relationship. Both parties come up with agreements that are fair and meet their desired goals. During problematic situations, the parties create avenues for sharing liabilities and minimizing losses. However, the parties must have a winning mentality, which is proof of good intentions for their partner (Covey, 2018). They work hard to attain their objectives and address differences. This behavior is useful in businesses serving and partnering to achieve a particular purpose and maximize profits.
