The Founding Fathers are responsible for the success that Americans enjoy today. I consider then to be the reason for the existence of America. They were all men of unquestionable character, who excelled in whatever they did. Harmed with a strong education, these individuals would proceed to change how the world viewed America.

“Washington’s contemporaries saw in him what they wanted to see.”
“Washington was a very good President, and an unhappy one.”
“He was a staged man, shrewd, purposeful, and effective.”
The greatest challenge of Sparks was balancing between what Washington would have wanted to make public and what the public wanted to see. The artificial Washington was well organized, educated, and charming in his writings. For instance, in his Inaugural Address, which was most likely drafted by James Madison, Washington appeared to be an educated individual. However, the actual Washington was unlearned. His works are clumsy, which demonstrates that he struggled with writing (Lepore, 2010). Washington was boring, considering his inward-looking nature.

Alex Forman’s mini-biographies, unlike most biographies, seek to combine both visual and literary to represent American presidents. A majority of biographies concentrate more on the literary aspect. However, Forman appreciates the power of combining the two elements to bring out the best out of each president. Just like Sparks’ work, Forman’s mini-biographies avoid any form of misrepresentation of the presidents. Forman gathers historical facts and rumors and explores the presidents as spectral men. For instance, Forman describes Andrew Jackson as “A tall, lean, poorly educated backwoodsman with a crest of hair almost red and a temper in keeping. A reckless horseman, cockfighter and duelist” (Forman, Ehrenreich & Verrone, 2011). The Forman’s project is meant to remind the audience of the historical realities about American residents that can easily be forgotten. The project serves as a reminder that these historical figures led the greatest country in the world, and also got hiccups in the process.

Photos are powerful instruments of passing a message to the intended audience. The ability of pictures to stimulate the imagination of the audience makes them appropriate to influence the opinions of people in a particular direction. During war times, photos are used to control how people think about the battleground. For instance, photos of soldiers in a warzone tend to elicit the brutality on innocent civilians.
