Teacher competency is one of the areas that a new teacher in a new school should be accustomed to. A teacher should be competent enough to engage with families in the best ways possible. When it comes to competency, a teacher should be taught the different parents that are in a school and their backgrounds. Moreover, a teacher should understand the different cultures that are with families as the education system has shifted to being global. A school can have children from all over the world, and therefore the culture is diverse (Karpati, 2009). On the other hand, competency in a teacher helps one to be professional and understand how to communicate with families, even those with difficulty in passing information.
Research-based teacher training is the other area that a new teacher should be trained on. This area helps a teacher to integrate with families that have diverse needs and who are well informed. A teacher should understand that certain families are well trained in different areas and different professions. It is, therefore, paramount for a teacher to seek for more research about communities in an area that one is going to teach. A teacher who understands research is in an excellent position to work well with all families that have children in a school (Karpati, 2009). Above all, this area is helpful to a teacher as one can be in the right position to prescribe solutions that families experience in a diverse community. Besides, research-based teacher training helps a teacher to be aware of new trends in the teaching profession.
Becoming a better communicator is the other area that a teacher in a new school should privy to. The world is run through communication, and a teacher should understand the forms of communication available to pass a message to families. Communication forms like interpersonal, verbal, and non-verbal communication would come in handy in ensuring that a teacher can pass the relevant communication to families. Moreover, different families have different needs, and there is a way that they prefer to use in communication (Karpati, 2009). When a teacher is armed with the necessary communication skills, it becomes easy for them to talk to families, and solving of problems is even more comfortable. On the other hand, individual families are known to use gestures as they communicate, and a teacher that is armed in all styles may find it easy to pass information.

This is a lesson or certificate that is separate from the teaching curriculum that a teacher may have gone through. A teacher should look for an institution that is competency-based to have the right skills in handling families.
