Imagine that you have been given a piece of sovereign land upon which to build a just society. In a 3-page paper, discuss the following:Identify and explain your definition of justice. Identify and discuss the social philosophy/philosophies that are similar to your own vision of justice. For example, you might draw upon Rawls’ idea that justice is fairness and original position and discuss how reflecting upon the original position influenced the structure of your new society. Alternatively, you might explain intersectionality and discuss how your society will ensure that discrimination on the basis of identities like race, class, gender, and sexuality will not occur. Identify and discuss a contrasting theory.
Definition of justice
Justice is a set of essential values codified norms in society and the state to treat everyone equally and fairly. Some of these values and others being are respect, equality, and freedom. The concept of justice is linked to the common good (Mitchell, 2014). There are sanctions when people violate justice, do not treat others fairly, and suppress the action or inaction that generates the common good. Various philosophers have defined the concept of justice. Plato argued that people ought to come out of darkness and ignorance by getting extensive knowledge such that those with the most knowledge are just. In the quest for justice, there is a focus on people’s welfare and norms and rules that all must respect. The values of equality and fairness ensure that people will not be discriminated against, and laws are adopted to ensure nobody is deprived of their rights.
Social philosophy/philosophies 
John Rawls’ theory of justice highlights two principles, which are the equal liberty and difference principle. The principle of equal basic liberties highlights that everyone has an equal right in a system with equal basic liberties. The principle of equal liberties is applied in a political context emphasizes equal fundamental rights and freedoms to ensure people are free and equal. The difference principle focuses on inequalities being justified when the least well-off become more advantaged. The distribution of income and wealth emphasizes improving the welfare of the least advantaged members of the society is better off, as is their social standing.
Rawls’ theory of justice focuses on the court system and as a political concept where there is a focus on justice as political values and not moral or religious viewpoint.
