Freudian contacted research and come up with the Theory of Personality. His theory has undergone additions, modifications, criticisms, and interpretations over years. This theory remains a topic of discussion even today. Psychologists of today who what to question what Freud called the theory of personality of gone ahead to contacted research and get information behind the theory. What Sigmund Freud referred to as Theory of Personality is worth discussing.
Freud in his Theory of personality explains personality organization, the different stages of personality organization and the effects of this on the development of human beings' libido (Schultz 2016). Freud first analyzed the psychological studies but later on changed and started studying the human mind and the various attributes that the human mind contains. In his study, he laid more emphasis on recognizing the effects of childhood events and their impact on the mental functioning of an adult. The modern-day psychotherapy is based on Freud's studies.
According to Sigmund, the human personality is a bit complex and has various components. The components include; the ID, the ego and the super ego. The ID element is the primitive and instinctive part of the mind that includes sexual and aggressive motivators and hidden memories. The super ego functions as the moral conscience while the ego the realistic element that meditates the desires of the id and the super ego. These components work together to bring about complex human behaviors (Roazen 2018). The elements interact and influence each other in a way that creates a powerful impact on an individual.
ID, it's the most primitive parts among the three structures. It refers to the irrational needs and demands of an individual. ID does not take into consideration the current situation, but instead, it is focused on immediate satisfaction and fulfillment of physical needs and drives. If for example, a shoe lover sees a beautiful shoe being sold, the ID will desire to own the shoe. The ID does not take into account it's wrong to pick a shoe. It's just concerning that person wants the shoe. Another instance is that the baby starts to cry when it's hungry. When the baby is fed, the baby stops crying, the ID's demand is fulfilled.
Ego, it's the other component of the human personality. The Ego is the rational and pragmatic part of the human personality which works in contrary to the instructive ID. Ego is less primitive compared to ID and it's usually partly conscious and partly subconscious. The ego develops and becomes active when an individual comes into contact with other people. Ego helps in fulfilling the ID taking into account the reality of the situation at hand (Schultz 2016). When a person sees a beautiful shoe, the ego mediates between the ID and the super ego and decides to make savings and acquire the shoe at a later date. The ego does not realize whether it's wrong or right so long as the desire is fulfilled without the suffering of itself and ID.
