Zhao Pan’er does not consider marriage or being a wife as the utmost redemption of a prostitute. She believes that romantic unions are complicated and they do not come easy. Pan’er explains how complicated the life of a prostitute is; she explains that a harlot spends a lifetime looking for money and that a marriage cannot be managed then and there. Pan’er asserts that marriage would facilitate regrets that may not be evaded. Most importantly, Pan’er explains that she has seen some of her companions who seek early marriages end up getting wasted like ghosts and get worn-out and they later end up seeking a new life (Hanqing, 2014). This explanation shows that Pan’er has negative views about marriage and does not believe that it is the ultimate solution to the prostitutes.
