Week 8, 1st article is about giving a person their freedom to choose for themselves is essential since it is there that they may exercise their right to choose, which we all have since birth. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), for example, relies on upon and protects the rights of all people and even individuals who are suffering from psychiatric issues. Kendra’s Law, as it is known in the government, attempts to protect the lives of persons who suffer from a psychiatric disorder. Are they endangering the lives of others as well as their own? When restricting a psychologically sick person in their community, this is the question to ask.

In the video week-8, they talk that people with psychological diseases are considered unstable because they tend to do unexpected things that can affect humans around them badly. Their condition is hidden in plain sight because they appear physically normal, but they are not. That is why it is hard to know if someone is psychologically ill or not. And if certain events where the patients are hurting themselves or other humans around them, law enforcement are required to halt the patient even it is against its human rights. For me, this is right because when others’ rights are being abused, their right should not be acknowledged because they did not acknowledge others in the first place.
Laws are also in place to protect psychologically sick people’s rights to live normal lives. The fundamental goal of these laws, like Kendra’s Law, which has a terrible explanation for its name, is to prevent mishaps caused by a rapid shift in a psychologically sick individual. This law provides a sense of security and certainty to all citizens, knowing that if specific situations occur, the government has the authority to detain a pathological individual. The government and the hospital both accept the right of psychologically sick individuals to make their own decisions.
