Question 8: Cohabitation has become part of the courtship process among many young adults.
In this chapter, I learned about the intricacies of relationships and the complexity of choosing a partner. On this particular question, the topic of cohabitation has become of particular interest to me. I learned that spending time together was an important part of choosing a compatible mate and partner. According to the book, the marketplace of relationships is riddled with many challenges and opportunities to know thyself and others. To become an attractive possible partner, you need to have qualities that the other expects and wants. The chapter reiterates the importance of compatibility and the process of getting to know each other. The book mentions how gender roles, culture, expectations, and personal efficacy are all important for a two-way working relationship. Marriage and partnership are indeed two challenging things as the desire of people to have a good partnership will lead them to be meticulous and specific about things they want in the relationship. Aside from attraction, people need to create a lasting romance by getting to know each other’s habits, interests, and aspirations, so that they may align on common ground and build a strong foundation for a happy marriage and a good relationship.

Question 7: Children raised by authoritarian parents tend to be less cheerful, moodier, and more vulnerable to stress.
I quickly agreed with this question as I had a slight resonance with being cared for by authoritarian parents. My parents were strict and were always weary and afraid for my safety. They always focused on my activities and were quick to judge what I engaged in, especially when it was not in their interests. From this chapter, I learned the specifics of different parenting styles and how they can affect the growing up child. I was able to learn of the implications of the parenting style on the children’s personalities as they become adults. This particular question mentions how kids with authoritarian parents are prone to more stress and how they might live unhappier lives. This is because their self-expression was limited, which might have the effect of diminished confidence, as children tend to be uncreative and scared due to the response of their parents regarding their actions. The chapter also speaks about the importance of mothers’ and fathers’ roles and how their attention, availability, and quality of care can affect the overall personality of an individual.
