Depending on the organization that is running the project, the statement may take several forms, but the content remains relatively the same. The scope statement is the document that gives details of a project from a broad perspective. It highlights the name of the project, project charter and the problem statement of the project, to start with (Kumar, 2011). Then it goes on to state the objectives and the goals in line with what the project aims to solve, as stated in the problem statement. It then highlights on what the project will require to succeed. The milestone then follows the deliverables, which is a list of what the project has and will achieve with specific dates. In addition, the statement contains the project’s cost estimates and the stakeholders (owners) details.
The scoping process is the first step towards writing up a project. This is where the project manager outlines the work that will be done. It is very important as directs the team on the ground, on the sequence of events. This process takes place in the planning stages of a project, outlining the events, the requirements, expected outcomes and even the constrains that are expected in managing the project.
