Professional Capstone and Practicum Reflection
The Professional Capstone and Practicum course has been a transformative journey, providing me with invaluable knowledge and skills that have shaped my professional practice. Throughout the course, I have had the opportunity to engage in various learning experiences, including collaborative clinical practice and classroom discussions, which have deeply impacted my growth as a healthcare professional. This reflective journal captures my insights, strengths, weaknesses, and the competencies I have acquired.
Firstly, during my practice engagement experiences, I have embraced the evidence-based practice and collaborated with professionals from different disciplines, witnessing the effectiveness of interprofessional teams in delivering safe and efficient care. Secondly, I have also learned the importance of interprofessional collaboration in healthcare. Working alongside professionals from diverse backgrounds enhances effective communication, respect for each other's expertise, and shared decision-making, which are crucial for optimal patient outcomes (Bos‐van den Hoek et al., 2021). Therefore, I have learned to appreciate each team member's unique contributions and actively seek opportunities to engage in interprofessional collaboration.
Based on health care delivery and clinical systems, I have understood health care delivery better and the complex clinical systems in place. Medical facilities often face challenges such as poor patient safety towards communicable infections, poor coordination, and insufficient resource allocation, creating a barrier to reliable health care (Adebisi et al., 2022). This exposure has motivated me to explore innovative solutions and advocate for improvements in the healthcare system. Furthermore, I have learned to navigate complex ethical dilemmas, ensuring that decisions are made in the patient's best interest while respecting their autonomy and dignity.
In upholding high culturally sensitive care and human integrity, I have actively sought opportunities to expand my cultural competence. I have also learned to provide patient-centered care that respects diverse beliefs, values, and traditions among all patients. Culturally aligned care and preserving human dignity are integral aspects of nursing practice that help promote equal access to quality health care (Morrison et al., 2021). Throughout this engagement course, I have also developed a heightened awareness of the social determinants of health and their impact on individual and community well-being.
