Introduction
The 12 step group is made up of people who were alcoholics. They had met on 15th September 2015. The meeting consisted of 13 people, nine men, and four women. The group started was known as S.O.B.E.R Project. In the group, alcohol was the drug of choice.
Philosophy and Purpose
The group relied on the 12-step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous as interpreted by Steve K. The 12 step philosophy is based on Christian spiritual principles, such as truth, hope, faith, acceptance, integrity, self-discipline, patience, and humility, as outlined by the Pastor who led the meeting (S.O.B.E.R Project, 2015). The fourth step urges the members to make a searching and fearless moral inventory of themselves. This step helped them to reflect on their past and identify the root cause of drinking. It also helped them understand their personal strengths and weaknesses. The fifth step is to urge them to accept their mistakes. In this case, they should be at peace with themselves, the people around them, and God. This step helped them to be at peace with society and all that happens in society. The sixth step persuaded them to surrender to God and let him remove all defects of character that made them drink.
The seventh step is requesting God to remove our shortcomings, as noted by Monico (2020). This step taught them always to humble themselves before God. They should ask God to remove their weakness to alcohol. Step eight was made for them to make a list of people they had harmed as a result of alcoholism. The next step was to urge the members to make direct amends to those people where possible. Step ten persuaded the members to continue taking personal inventory, and it enabled them to keep a good memory of all that they did. Step eleven directed the members to always seek through prayer and meditation to continuously improve their contact with God to cont...
