The World As Design
Otl Aicher’s “The World as Design” portrays how people have changed the world and manipulated the forces of nature. I agree with the author that the world comprises a process of development where individuals are born. The world is a design because it is the product of civilization made and organized by humans.
Since the world consists of good and bad designs, nature is part of it that falls into the boundary (Aicher, 1991). In my opinion, good designs are individuals’ actions that contribute to positive changes, while bad designs are things that affect the world negatively. For example, the emission of greenhouse gases leads to the bad design of the world. Aicher makes a crucial point that the world people live in is the one they made. In other words, human actions significantly influence the world. For instance, cutting down trees or deforestation causes the imbalance of atmospheric gases, causing climate change.
