The Interview
This interview involved a Masters prepared nurse who is serving as an Assistant Director of Nursing a position she assumed just a year ago. The interview is done purposely to demonstrate how the Master of Science in Nursing works to satisfactorily prepare a nurse as she aims to assume a higher position in the field of administration, education, and nursing practice. By achieving this, the individual will have many opportunities for growth besides opening doors to various culture possibilities (Sherman, Dyess, Hannah & Prestia, 2013; Lis, Hanson, Burgermeister & Banfield, 2014). My interviewee is C.M., a colleague Lenox Hill Hospital. Her qualifications are impressive. She also values very much her education because she is well aware that this is that enables her to realize her dreams. Her story of how she rose from one rank o the other, a higher one, is also impressed me a lot.
Overview of Career
C.M.'s career started after she graduated from Chamberlain College in 1993 as a Medical Assistant. She worked for three years from 1993-1996 at a surgical group clinic in Alabama where she was in charge of the back room. Her clinical experience came along as she assessed patients, assisted the doctors in stitching in the surgery process, and took vital signs. Yearning for higher opportunities, C.M. continued with her studies and subsequently became a Certified Nursing Assistant from Gateway Community College in 1996-1999. She cared for her patients and coordinated with the nurses regarding the physical needs of their clients. These activities reinforced her desire to know more so that she could be better placed to offer the best medical services. Therefore, while executing her duties as a CAN, she undertook her Licensed Vocational Nurse program at Upper Iowa University and graduated in 1999. She did study full-time during the weekdays and attended work for two days during the weekend to make, a strategy that she employed to enable her to make the ends meet. From 1999 to 2010, CM worked as an LVN at the Kindred Hospital Arizona in Phoenix, where she was able to perfect her technical skills on intravenous therapy, medication pass, catheterizations, and irrigations. From 2010 to 2012, she joined Providence Training Institute where she pursued masters in nursing. She then joined Lenox Hill Hospital as a junior nurse in 2012 and quickly rose in ranks up to late 2014 when she became the Assistant Director of Nursing in this institution up to date.
Reason Seeking Graduate Education
C.M. indicated that her main reason for seeking graduate education was to increase his employability. She says that she knew that with that level of education she could get to be employed in various places (Jeffers & Astroth, 2013). True to her wishes, the education managed to open to her many doors, and she managed to get to a position that many just dream of.
Present Position and Role
CM is currently serving as an Assistant Director of Nursing at Lenox Hill Hospital. As an assistant director of nursing, CM is charged with a myriad of responsibilities. These include:
Overseeing the clinical operations of the D...
