Self-Reflection
Moral behavior is the basis of peaceful communal coexistence. Personal core values help maintain a moral society because they guide people's behavior. These core values include integrity, honesty, responsibility, respect, servant leadership, loyalty, duty, honor, and personal courage. My core personal values are integrity and responsibility. Integrity entails knowing what to do right, when, and how to do it, and responsibility entails embracing opportunities and contributing positively. It also involves accepting the results of ones' actions. My choices conflicted with my core values and jeopardized my academic excellence. However, the consequences of my choices have taught me always to be true to myself and do the right thing.
I have always lived my core values of integrity and responsibility. The guilt makes me think that all my instructors know what I did and doubt my academic integrity. In the same way, I always think that my classmates, friends, and family members see me as a dishonest person who cannot be trusted with any responsibilities. This has affected me academically and psychologically, and I recently visited a psychologist who helped me deal with the situation. Thanks to him, I currently feel better.
The incident has taught me three lessons that will always guide my future decisions in similar scenarios. The first lesson I learned is that breaking trust affects a person mentally and psychologically, and it is challenging to reinstate the trust. When possible, people should not make mistakes that break their trust with others. The effects are detrimental, especially because a person feels guilty a...
