The jug was created between the 4th and 7th century in Kharga Oasis, Byzantine Egypt, and was discovered in 1925 by Rogers Fund (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2019). The Jug was made from soil and is placed under the ceramics class. It was used in Egyptian and Roman homes for storage of various substances such as olive oil, wine, and grapes. In some instances, they were used to store food. In rare cases, it was used for decorative purposes.
The Jug was created as a part of household items, particularly for use in rural homes. It is less decorated, which is a portrayal of the wealth status of the people who used. Compared to Antique Glass Jars that were used by wealthy families living in urban areas that were particularly used for the storage of cosmetics.
