Let’s say you have been reflecting on your first few weeks as a preschool teacher. Managing Negative Behaviour in Pre-School
Introduction
In early childhood, the child has an extremely productive mindset and can learn multiple things effectively. Therefore, the preschool education targets the early childhood education to educate 2 to 5 years children to provide the emotional, social, physical and cognitive foundation for holistic development (Yoshikawa, Weiland & Brooks-Gunn, 2016). Thus, learning at early ages supports children in life-long experience. In this stage, pre-school teachers play a dynamic role in creating their foundation about early education with good education and care. As per Lubrano (2018), the teacher needs to be active, passionate, loving, child-friendly and empathetic in the pre-school to guide students well about the early learning tactics. The paper hereafter reflects my first-week experience as the pre-school teacher and highlights my responsive to teach children and maintain their good behavior with impressive assistance.
Part A
In the first week, I found a three-year-old kid; Tommy was crying over his drawing because he had not drawn the truck like Sam. This case is critical to understand for me as the pre-school teacher that why he was crying.
Cause of Behavior
In preschool, it is the common practice of children to cry over multiple reasons including sickness, dissatisfaction, hunger, pain and tiredness. Children usually sad and frustrated on small things like Tommy in my class (Raising Children Network, 2019). In my case, I observed him crying and gathered facts to understand the cause of crying. Thus, I found it immature, but he was highly competitive in the age of 3-years because he has not met his expectations and wanted to be more effective with his drawing like Sam, he started crying. I evaluated that Tommy got frustrated when he faces challenges, which restricts him to participate in actively in-class activities. In a particular scenario, his behaviour should be constructive rather than upset to regulate his emotions.
Guidance Approach for Behavior
In case of a toddler crying due to competition, the teacher should be responsive to organize the negative behavior of a child into the constructive one because it supports Tommy to be productive in future activities and should concentrate on the learning foundations that help him in the school. The most impressive approach to guide Tommy is to take assessment orally about his emotions and behavior towards handling the complicated activities. Further, the pre-school teacher should invite his parents for appropriate guidance regarding his attitude. The assessment will highlight the contradicting causes and with those, a teacher can implement the relevant approaches to manage the negative behavior.
