The story Moby Dick holds hundreds of meanings that a single person can come up to. It is a widely known story that significantly impacts its readers and serves knowledge in the form of their understanding. As the story started with the narrator calling himself Ishmael and the extraordinary journey he pursued with his fellow crewmates, unfolds the symbol of man pursuing nature itself. Despite many theories and hypotheses, this story is about how humans pursue their true self's unknown existence.
Journey to the Unknown in Finding the Truth
In the story, its characters, objects, and figures show the idea of how man finds his true self by engaging in many different unknown journeys. The different types of human nature characterize Ishmael, Queequeg, Ahab, Starbucks, and more. Ishmael, who was considered an outcast, presents a man who is introverted and prone to depression. On the other hand, Ahab was characterized as a restless, brave man and had high confidence in himself and his leadership. At the same time, Starbucks was shown as a man who was the opposite of Ahab in terms of personality but still focused on the same goals.
