The readings and videos have clarified the role leader has in creating vision, mission, and goals. Followers are driven towards leaders that are objective and inspired in creating the three elements. Moreover, I have learned to start leadership from an individual level before others can appreciate my input. Besides, it does not matter being a leader of a crowd or a small population; what matters is the movement’s role and impact in the participants' and others' lives. Therefore, leadership is an experience, a journey, duty, and opportunity for growth.
A civically engaged person has an understanding, commitment, and objective engagement approach to a social problem. An activist like Eli Bundy participates in civic engagement at a young age but still understands the presenting issues. Bundy is conscious of the legislative processes and how they will impact their lives as LGBTQ individuals. The understanding motivates Bundy to engage in civic activities like addressing policymakers and protecting by not going to class for three hours. Bundy also manifests courage by coming to the public to address the legislation despite being one of their targets. The action makes Bundy an open target in case the bills are information policy formulation in their school. Therefore, it is bold to open up and become a visible figure addressing consequential matters like gender and sexuality. Other acts of courage demonstrated by the LGBTQ include testifying and filing lawsuits against discriminatory laws. Their role exposes them to stigmatization from conservatives and other right-wing organizations and personalities.
