The Lack of Enough Parking Space on Campus
Can you imagine, today, one of my friends was late to attend a critical class as he struggled to find a parking space? Nowadays, many students drive themselves to school. However, the parking space is limited. Universities should build underground parking spaces to solve the issue of congestion in the available parking lot.
The lack of enough parking space in universities has adverse effects on students. First, learners cannot attend their classes on time, which leads to poor academic performances. Lisa Prevost (2017) argues that many institutions of higher education encourage students to use bicycles to commute to school or walk. For example, in Wisconsin-Madison University, which has a population of about 65,000 people, learners are not allowed to park their vehicles in the available parking space (Prevost, 2017). Second, students have to walk long distances to school, and they get there while already tired. What is more, they cannot concentrate on their studies well while they are exhausted. During winter, many learners might not be able to attend their classes due to harsh weather conditions, which make it almost impossible to walk.
The issue of limited parking spaces in the university affects students’ academic performances adversely. In some cases, class attendance contributes to the overall academic scores. For this reason, learners who fail to attend classes due to the parking problem are likely to lose marks, which might demotivate them from studying. When students walk long distances, they use energy that would have enabled them to optimize their class activities. Moreover, during winter, it is extremely difficult for students to walk in snow and wind. As such, something needs to be done to address this issue so that learners can have peace of mind and study without any interference.
Nevertheless, there exist several ways of solving the parking problem once and for all. If many students are asked, they would admit that university life is not enjoyable due to the limited parking space. Colleges should expand their parking sp...
