It does not come as a surprise for any of us that some of the biggest industries today are those which belong in the internet and the computer manufacturing industries. Top companies like Microsoft, IBM, Facebook, Snapchat, Samsung, etc. are all related with one common aspect; all of them are related to computer engineering, whether in hardware (manufacture and distribution) or software (apps and websites). Even Cisco, one of the biggest player in this market, have reported that the internet industry solely, is currently valued at about $19 trillion (Cheng, 2014). Consequently, this amount of wealth has created some of the world’s greatest tech billionaires, such as Bill Gates (Owner and founder of Microsoft), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Larry Ellison (Oracle), Michael Dell (Dell), and Pony Ma (Tencent Holdings) just to name a few. Nevertheless, this shows that a huge chunk of the top 1% are involved in tech industries and as this trend continues to grow, I am absolutely certain that the increase in demand for more engineers and other graduates, which have backgrounds in computer science would not cease, in the near future.
However, aside from the rapidly expanding bubble for the tech industry. Another reason why more and more engineers and computer scientists would be in demand for the next couple of years is due to the pull of these huge corporations towards the greatest minds in the tech industry. Because of this, the government lacks the necessary manpower due to the high-salary that is offered from the other side.
