Introduction
The title of the film Boundaries communicates the theme of reconciliation and a struggle with one’s past. In this movie, the “boundary” between the individuals or more specifically between Jack (Christopher Plummer) and her daughter Laura Jaconi (Vera Farmiga) is tattered. Jaconi’s therapist had warned that such a relationship is detrimental to her psychological well-being. That said, Laura programmed her cellphone to produce a shrill sound when her estranged father calls – and a tag that read: “Do Not Pick Up.” The more Jaconi attempts to establish boundaries within her life, the faster such lines are crossed, culminating in a struggle with her past or reconcile with it. This report discusses the theme of reconciliation and the inability to control one’s past via Jaconi and Jack’s critical lens centered on ideas developed within the film “Boundaries.”
