Importance of Human Development Studies
The study of human development provides a wide range of benefits for professional and personal understanding and growth. That said, individuals and health and wellness educators study human development for various reasons. It helps them better understand one’s life experiences and thus understand the childhood encounters that shaped their adolescence and adulthood. Human development studies also instill knowledge about the impact of social contexts on development. This knowledge could be invaluable for professionals such as teachers to better understand their learners. It also helps wellness and health educators to comprehend and contextualize life’s experiences (Maryville University, 2021). This assists psychologists and therapists in better assist their customers in self-discovery.
Human development understanding helps individuals and wellness educators to recognize the role of societal change in supporting growth and development. This understanding assists decision-makers within schools to change the learning culture for the better. Individuals also become more effective leaders, teachers, and researchers in various industries. Understanding human development well and in contexts encompasses various professional benefits that lead to greater insights. Human development knowledge also supports the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals across their lifespan. Professionals such as therapists, nurses, and physicians should understand human development better to assist their clients (Maryville University, 2021).
The Most Beneficial Aspects of this Course
The most beneficial aspect entailed acknowledging the role of relationships in driving human development. Relationships among and between adults and children constitute a key process via which contextual and biological factors impact and mutually reinforcing each other. Accordingly, relationships that are attuned, reciprocal, trustful, and culturally responsive constitute a positive development determinant between a child and their social and physical settings. In addition, I learned that these relationships assist create idiographic developmental pathways that form the basis for adaptation, lifelong knowledge acquisition, the incorporation of emotional, cognitive, affective, and social dynamics, and institute qualitative alterations to a child’s genetic domains. Another important aspect entailed acknowledging the role of family resources, emotional climate, social supports, and stability, coupled with positive psychological models and supportive caregiver-child relationships and interactions in providing appropriate connection, safety, and bonding for healthy human development (Osher et al., 2020).
