Introduction
At any given time in life, human beings are fond of developing a delusion about themselves, the environment, the reality, or a concept based on arguments that might be misguided or falsified. These kinds of perception best describe what fallacies are. Unfortunately, one can be a victim of fallacy without their conscience. It is however very important for one to be able to critically evaluate a concept and determine its relevance and the truth of the matter. There are numerous instances where one can be a victim of false belief, and the examples are given below.
Appeal to authority
This kind of fallacious reasoning is exhibited when one is obliged to accept a concept just because a person they look up to or deemed to be in an authoritative position holds the same ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"oL7lb0g7","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Arp et al., 2018)","plainCitation":"(Arp et al., 2018)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":440,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/IBolxqVE/items/HILK9MWJ"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/IBolxqVE/items/HILK9MWJ"],"itemData":{"id":440,"type":"book","publisher":"John Wiley & Sons","source":"Google Scholar","title":"Bad arguments: 100 of the most important fallacies in Western philosophy","title-short":"Bad arguments","author":[{"family":"Arp","given":"Robert"},{"family":"Barbone","given":"Steven"},{"family":"Bruce","given":"Michael"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2018"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Arp et al., 2018). Not all appeal to authority are fallacies because they can have some factual basis. Celebrities are the most common agents of appeal to authority fallacies. For instance, Calvin Klein underwear is the most common brand among males simply because the likes of Justin Bieber are big fans of the products. This implies that the fact that Justin Bieber is perceived to be a musical genius gives him some authority to sell out products yet in real sense Justin is not even an expert in the underwear industry.
Appeal to pity
Appeal to pity fallacy occurs when one takes advantage of an unfortunate situation to turn around things on their favor ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"0EwjnVeg","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Wrisley, 2018)","plainCitation":"(Wrisley, 2018)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":442,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/IBolxqVE/items/XPI3T24A"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/IBolxqVE/items/XPI3T24A"],"itemData":{"id":442,"type":"article-journal","container-title":"Bad Arguments: 100 of the Most Important Fallacies in Western Philosophy","note":"publisher: Wiley Online Library","page":"98–101","source":"Google Scholar","title":"Appeal to emotion: force or fear","title-short":"Appeal to emotion","author":[{"family":"Wrisley","given":"George"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2018"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Wrisley, 2018).
