Harper Lee- To Kill a Mocking Bird
Harper Lee is an American novelist popularly known for her early work during the time of the great depression. She won the Pulitzer Prize as the author of the 1960 book, To Kill a Mocking Bird, which became the best-selling book locally and internationally and featured in the award-winning academy film (Hu & Zhou, 2019). Typically, the contribution of Lee in literature work is limited to one text, yet she achieved much more than writers who authored volumes.
Harper Lee was the youngest child in a family of four children. She was born in 1926 in a small town in southwest Alabama, Monroeville, where her father served as a lawyer and a state legislature (Hu & Zhou, 2019). On the other hand, Lee's mother was mentally ill and remained indoors. The author's interest in literature sparked during her time in high school. Unlike other girls, she was an exceptional learner at Huntingdon college, focusing on writing and studies. After dropping her law career at Oxford university, she moved to New York and worked as a reservation officer in an airline company. By then, Lee had written and completed her To Kill a Mocking Bird manuscript, first published in 1960 (Hu & Zhou, 2019). Most aspects of the novel reflect the author's autobiography work.
After the publication of the famous novel, Lee served as a research assistant for her childhood friend. She published articles in the 1960s before being named to the national arts council (Hu & Zhou, 2019). Lee has numerous doctorates and attended ceremonies but disclosed less information about her work.
