The main competitors of Tesla are auto mobile companies such as Honda, General Motors, Navistar, Oshkosh, Spartan, Tata Motors, Kandi Technologies, Toyota Motor corporation and Wabco and Federal and industrial conglomerate. Most of these companies have existed for almost a century and play different roles in the vehicle manufacturer value chain. These companies continue to progress and advance technologically in manufacturing vehicles which are either hybrids which use gasoline and electricity or purely electric cars. Some of those frontrunners who have become adaptive to technology include Chevrolet, Nissan and Volt. Tesla has a top notch status cache which is an advancement which other vehicles are yet to adopt. Electric vehicle manufacturing has become a key technology requirement for vehicle manufacturing for mainstay companies such as BMW, Fiat, Chrysler, Ford and others since the last quarter of 2018.
Among the top eight US manufacturers of electric vehicles, two of Tesla’s models are ranked fourth and second. The company runs retail outlets in North America, Asia and Europe and in the year 2017, it reported a gross revenue of almost $12 billion, with a market capitalization of approximately $63 billion at the end of 2018. Despite being in the league of technology cars manufacturers, Tesla does not pay dividends and has not been profitable so far. It has a large investment portfolio and has made huge infrastructure investments including the Nevada based factory, which aims to reduce car battery costs by 30%.
