The explicit instructions during language learning are crucial to learning new vocabulary where meaning is emphasized in the Focus on Form (FonF) instruction (Shintani, 2013). FonF is likely effective in learning adjectives as it facilitates extensive learning where the language learners need to gain more knowledge of the adjectives, and this helps to learn specific features and forms. In the study, Shintani taught the lessons and compared the results of FonF, the control groups and FonFs, indicating that the teacher variable was controlled.
