Expressed emotion refers to a caregiver's attitude toward a person with a mental illness. It is a crucial aspect of the home environment linked to symptom recurrence in various mental illnesses. According to studies, expressed emotion is a significant psychosocial cause of anxiety directly linked to disease recurrence (Amaresha & Venkatasubramanian, 2012). The relevance of expressed emotion is based on studies showing that people with mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, who live with close family and have negative views are far more likely to relapse. Criticism, antagonism, and emotional over-involvement are among the behavioral patterns that make up the emotional expression concept. Like many other environmental factors, expressed emotional behaviors are neither pathogenic nor exclusive to families with mental diseases. Still, they can trigger psychiatric disease relapsing in persons sensitive to stress.
In Frese's lessons, he notes that recognizing how the body reacts to stress is also crucial for someone suffering from schizophrenia symptoms. In the fields of emotion and cognition, stress causes a negative response. Individuals with a brain issue react to stresses differently than healthy persons. Instead of developing hypertension, ulcers, or rashes, people with a brain condition react in mental processes. Irrational reactions include paranoia and delusional thinking, to name a few. Unfortunately, even positive stress can have the same result.
